A minimalist solo flute piece written in conjunction with live electronics. The piece consists of 3 small movements each around 3-5 minutes depending on performer. The 3 movements put into sound the mental decline of Camerons childhood as he learned to live with epilepsy. The first movement written for piccolo sets the tone, first introducing the repetitive motif that will appear throughout the work in several variations. The second movement written for alto flute illustrates the slow decline into depression with chromatic runs and variations of the main melody and more intense electronic effects. The third movement written for base flute expresses a cathartic release as he learns to live with the disorder, and presents the melody in a more somber, hopeful, and slightly haunting tone. This piece is one of many present in the album ‘Concepts’ which all musically describe emotional, ideological, philosophical, or otherwise abstract concepts.
Performed by Tom Brody (Flute) and Garrett Nothern (Electronics)
